How to register for the Welcome US humanitarian parole for Cubans? step by step guide

The humanitarian parole program is an initiative taken by Welcome US that seeks to provide a two-year permit to citizens cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans and Haitians to remain in the United States. In this note, we tell you all the details to obtain this benefit and what requirements need to be met.

Humanitarian parole for Cubans: what are the requirements?

Welcome US provides 30,000 monthly permits, aimed at citizens of the permitted countries (Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti), to access this program.

However, to acquire this benefit, a sponsor is needed to certify that Cubans who want to take advantage of the parole do not mean a public charge for the United States.

In this regard, these sponsors must comply with the following:

  • Complete Form I-134A
  • The sponsor must be a relative, friend or acquaintance who is a US citizen or resident.
  • The sponsor must prove their legal status in the US.
  • The sponsor must certify that they are able to financially support the applicant during their stay.

Once these documents are submitted, the Citizenship and Immigration Service (Uscis) will review it and decide whether to approve the registration application.

If approved, the applicant will receive an email with the steps to register online.

Once the sponsor is certified, the beneficiary will receive a message via email with a guide to follow to register in the CBP One application, in which they must complete their biographical information, a current photo and their scanned passport.

After attaching this information, the authorization to travel to the US will be sent to the applicant. However, the USCIS warns that, once the message is issued, the subject will have 90 days to travel to the North American country.

It also adds that, if he is considered a threat to national and public security, he will be prosecuted immediately.

What if I don’t have a sponsor for the parole?

No problem! If you do not have a sponsor in the US to access humanitarian parole, Welcome Connect opens its platform, for a limited time, on the 15th of each month so that applicants can register and access a sponsor.

The hours in which the page will be activated are the following:

  • Cuba and Haiti: 10:00 am (11:00 am with daylight saving time)
  • Nicaragua: 9:00 a.m.
  • Venezuela: 11:00 a.m.

For more information, you can CLICK HERE.

Time on the platform is limited, so it is recommended to anticipate the start time and have everything on hand. Photo composition LR/AFP.
