Petro made an appeal to “go out to the streets” and defend his government, in its most difficult moment after the broadcast of some audios among Armando Benedettiformer ambassador of Venezuela, and Laura Sarabiaformer presidential chief of staff, which would reveal alleged abuse of power, wiretaps and threats for alleged irregularities in the financing of the presidential campaign.
“The time has come to fight, with joy and culture, we are not going to fight with weapons, but you do not leave us alone, accompany us, fight. The time has come to get together because the popular march has a specific objective: here the corrupt leave, the violent leave. Colombia will be of peace, of justice. Colombia will be a world power of life”, stated Petro.
The head of state also announced reforms to Law 30 and public services that Congress will continue for the next legislature. He also mentioned that there must be popular assemblies in all the municipalities of Colombia —where decisions must be made about “their region, about their territory, about peace”— and that “Every minister who does not pay attention leaves.”
Throughout his speech, he highlighted the number of people who took to the streets, he even joked, arguing that he had not been prepared and said that he will continue with the people until “death.”
