President of Ecuador authorizes possession of weapons by civilians for personal defense

The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lassoannounced in a message to the nation last Saturday that the new measures to combat insecurity in the country would include the authorization to possess and carry weapons for civilian use for “personal defense”.

“We have modified the decree that allows the possession and carrying of weapons,” he said, and indicated that the manufacture, registration and possession of artisanal weapons is prohibited.

This announcement is part of a wave of violent acts related to firearms in USAwhose amendment to article two of its magna carta, which states that “the right of the People to keep and bear arms will not be infringed,” allows almost anyone to have the option of carrying a weapon.

Reactions to the measure decreed by Lasso
