After the transphobic aggression went viral through publications on social networks, the Mossos d’Esquadra (Spanish Police) opened an investigation to clarify the case.
For his part, he Observatory against Homophobia of Catalonia reported that the event took place around 9:00 pm inside a carriage of the Subway Line 1 in the vicinity of the aforementioned station, when a subject approached a trans woman for no apparent reason.
The violence of the aggressor was recorded by several passengers. The images show how the victim tried to flee, but was unable to. Once the car stopped at the next station, the woman ran out, after which the service resumed.
The institution condemned the man’s actions and the authorities began an ex officio investigation by verifying the veracity of the images captured by the witnesses.
Marc Serra, acting councilor for Citizen Rights of Barcelona City Council, mentioned that the fact constitutes a reprehensible episode of violence against the LGTBI community and that it should be thoroughly investigated. In addition, he reported that the City Council activated the protocol against homophobic and transphobic attacks, and made the municipal non-discrimination office available to the victim.
