US to use electronic shackles to monitor migrants detained at the border

Families who are detained irregularly crossing the southern border of USA will be monitored with electronic shackle and will be subject to a curfew while the authorities study their cases.

The Government will take this measure in order to make sure families show up for interviews with a credible reason to determine if they have a case to file an asylum petition, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service of USA (ICE) in a statement.

Families who receive a negative answer after having appeared for the interview will be deported within 30 days, the statement said.

This new US government program only applies to families who come from countries to which there are deportation flights and who reside in Newark, Washington, Baltimore and Chicago, as reported by the LA Times.

The US is “committed to imposing greater consequences irregular (border) crossers in a humane and safe manner,” said Corey A. Price, a senior ICE official.

The President’s Government Joe Biden prepares during these days for the lifting of the Title 42a sanitary norm that allows the expulsions of migrants at the border.

Starting Thursday, more restrictions will come into effect for irregular border crossers, including possible deportation and a ban on entry to the US for five years.
