Russia bans Barack Obama and 500 other Americans from entry amid US sanctions

Russia banned this Friday the entry to its territory to 500 Americans, including the former president Barack Obamaafter a new package of sanctions imposed by USA due to the war in Ukraine.

“In response to anti-Russian sanctions, regularly imposed by the Biden administration (…), the entry into the Federation of Russia it is closed to 500 Americans,” the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.

And he added that “Washington should have understood long ago that not a single hostile attack against Russia will go without a harsh response.”

The Kremlin’s blacklist includes senior officials, congressmen and senators elected in November 2022. Also heads of military industry companies that supply Ukraine with weapons.

As well as members of the State security organs that persecute dissidents and experts and analysts from centers that have participated in the dissemination of news about Russia, journalists and TV presenters such as James Kimmel or Stephen Colbert.

Along these lines, the environmental defense NGO Greenpeace described as “absurd” Russia’s decision to label its organization as “undesirable” in its territory.

What sanctions did the US recently impose on Russia?

The United States added hundreds of companies and individuals to its sanctions list on Friday, intensifying its efforts to stifle the Russian economy in retaliation for the offensive in Ukraine.

This measure affects some 300 entities, people, ships and planes that are collaborating with Russia in its offensive, according to information from EFE.
