President Erdogan leads election results in Turkey with 52% of votes counted

The Turkish and Islamist president Recep Tayyip Erdogan leads with 53% of the votes the scrutiny of the presidential elections in Turkey, when a third of all the ballot boxes in the country have already been opened, according to the official agency anadolu.

According to these data, still preliminary and unofficial, Erdogan, who has been in power for two decades, would have won his third presidential election and would continue in office for five more years. The candidate of the opposition bloc, the Social Democrat Kemal Kiliçdaroglu, would get 40%.

The CHP, Kiliçdaroglu’s party, has given its own partial tally, indicating that the two candidates are practically even. If neither achieves an absolute majority, a second round will be held in two weeks.

The progress of the count is very different depending on the region, and in big cities like Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, where the opposition has more support, it is a little slower than in the country as a whole, so the results can still vary considerably. .

Regarding the parliamentary elections, which are also being held today, the government alliance led by Erdogan’s AKP would have won with 61%, although in this case the ballot box count only reached 10%.
