Shock has aroused the case of Huguito, as he was called by his family. He child 4-year-old was taken to the hospital by his parents because he woke up with stomachache and fever on January 5 in the province of San Juan, in Argentina.
Once in the hospital, the doctor who treated the minor informed the parents that it was not anything serious and that his condition was probably due to heat stroke. However, as the hours passed, the discomfort persisted and the little boy died suddenly.
“He was down, I took him to the hospital and in the emergency room a guard attended me who asked me the data and symptoms. We entered at about 2:15, and just at 3:15 a lady came out and took her heartbeat and fever. She tells me that the doctor was going to see me shortly and it took him an hour to open me up,” Mauricio Villecillo, the minor’s father, explained to Diario 13.
Huguito was taken home after the medical consultation. He spent the rest of the day with discomfort and, during the early hours of the morning, his parents were preparing to take him back to the hospital, but at that moment he fainted.
The family immediately proceeded to call an ambulance, but it never arrived. The minor was treated by a policeman on the sidewalk of his house, who applied CPR maneuvers and a neighboring nurse took him to the nearest health center.
The little boy had already lost his life. The result of the autopsy determined that he died of “acute gastroenteritis.”
Parents call for justice
Four months ago, when Huguito died, the family has been living a nightmare. Although they have denounced the Federico Cantoni Hospital, in Pocito, for poor medical care that led to the death of their son, the Argentine Justice dismissed their request, so now they cannot sue the hospital where their little one died.
According to the father, the Special Crimes UFI opposed his complaint and alleged that the experts indicated that the child died of myocarditis, for which the doctor had no way of knowing what the minor had.
He also said that the prosecutor Iván Grassi told them that the case would be reopened if the family had a doctor who wanted to testify.
“In the complaint we asked him to call the doctor, the nurse, and that we had an expert who was going to testify. He did not even read what we sent. He is unpresentable,” he claimed.
